Fr. C. John McCloskey invites us to the sacrament of confession in this article I'm sharing. He actually broadens the goal for us that confession is just the wrapper for the gift that God has for us which is Himself in the Eucharist. Fr. McCloskey says that most people whom he had spoken to who converted or reverted to the Faith really wanted their sins pardoned because they were looking for Christ afterwards in communion since they are in the state of grace already.
I also heard somewhere (pardon me to which I forgot where) that this being in the state of grace was not a rule the adults made up for kids to be in the kiddle table but its for everyone's etiquette for a banquet or handaan.
Imagine you're invited to a town fiesta where the big shots and the nobodies are welcome and the guest was a well known and impeccable person from a place that you highly admire and this guy shakes everybody's hand, giving everybody a one-on-one. Even if you had
only one good set of clothes, you would have them laundered and wear them because you know that that is important to the guest of honor. You would style your hair, brush your teeth even in the midst of a blackout. What more with Christ which happens in every communion, you and Christ one-on-one.
Also, our own bishops asked us to "spiritually prepare" for Pope Francis' visit sometime early next year, even if his national team lost in the Maracana just a few hours ago in the World Cup.
The World Cup allowed people from different countries and religions to come together. May sport always promote the culture of encounter.
