Stand Down

If you read the article by Paul Adams To Aim at Virtue and Fall Short Does Not a Hypocrite Make, philosophical issues are at play towards the end and is a very nice read, like reading St. John Paul II's works.  What struck me though was the fact that there are some out there that will count you out if you fall from virtue.  May mga tao na pagnagkamali ang isang tao sila ay nagiging mga referees na pagbumagsak ka na sa boksing at magbibilang na sila, ang bilang ay One-Two-Ten, tapos.  Adams called them the "gotcha crowd."

Yes there are those types.  The uncanny reality of virtue and vice is that as people, we will fall, which is the effect of the original fall.  Baptism picked us up again but we still have

concupiscence and that predilection to fall again.  Reconciliation helps us pick ourselves up again each and every time.  That takes headache-inducing humility, by the way, and those who pick themselves up repeatedly I have my utmost respect for you guys.  I'm also thinking along the lines of what Bruce Wayne's dad said to to Bruce Wayne in the first Nolan-Batman movie.

And yes, we met them, in school, in the office, online.  Some of us may be part of the gotcha crowd.  Adams also wrote that its because "they don't have a sense of sin", of the fall.  I think they are even harder on themselves than other people.  They take themselves too seriously.

They concluded that why in the world should I keep picking myself up when its quite alright here on the floor saying, "Hey look, its better here, smelly feet, chewing gum.  I can sleep here.  I'll eat this five-day-old porkchop.  Wow, it's not so bad.  No worries.  No responsibilities."  They won't listen to Coach Christ anymore urging, "You can stand up!  C'mon!"

It's really hard to stand but, c'mon, our coach always helps us stand up.
