WYD Rio Update: First Days

We have some new updates from pilgrims of the World Youth Day activities in Brazil.

From WYD Pinoy, Filipinos who have sponsor families in the Brazilian town of Petropolis exchange laughs, joyful experiences and sorrowful goodbyes as they move on from their missionary week stop-over to Rio de Janeiro in this piece.
“But what I found unique in the pre-WYD week activities in Brazil is the emphasis on educating the pilgrims about their faith, their country, their community and their environment.”

From the Catholic News Service, Pope Francis arrived in Rio on July 22 and headed to the governor's palace to be welcomed by the President of Brazil.  Afterwards, pilgrims were able to see him.
"In his remarks there, delivered in a mixture of Portuguese and Spanish, the pope borrowed a phrase from the Acts of the Apostles: 'I have neither silver nor gold, but I bring with me the most precious thing given to me: Jesus Christ!'"
