The Late Cardinal Sin and his Habit of Confessing

Leslie Ann G. Aquino of the Manila Bulletin wrote a interesting part of the life of the Late Jaime Cardinal Sin of the Archdiocese of Manila and his personal commitment to the sacrament of reconciliation.  It was given during the the mass of the commemoration of the Cardinal's death eight years ago.

It was part of the homily of the Prelate of Lingayen, Archbishop Socrates Villegas, who was once the secretary of Jaime Cardinal Sin.  Cardinal Sin is more popular to us Filipinos for his role in the Edsa Revolution in 1986.

The late Cardinal was said to go "to confession every two weeks, sometimes every week."  Archbishop Villegas added, "He went for confession and begged God for mercy."

See the rest of the article.  Here is also a great excerpt.

"'My brother priests at the confessional, our first duty is not to sit, but to kneel because we can only be good confessors after only being humbled penitents. That’s why when he spoke we understood him, when he spoke we believed him because it came from courtesy, respect and a clear conscience,' said Villegas."
