Catholic News Agency reported that last October 18 to 19 in the Gran Estacion Mall in Bogota, Columbia, at least "120 priests administered the Sacrament of Reconciliation to shoppers and those passing by."
It was in conjunction with the Jubilee Year of Mercy that ends on November 20, 2016 and Columbia's Faith Cup that brought priests all over the country to the capital Bogota to play football and celebrate their solidarity as priests in Columbia.
The confessions didn't only happen in the Gran Estacion Mall but a contingent of priests went to various prisons.
There are a few chapels in Metro Manila that has confessions for those who are in the malls, and from a penitent's view point it's a gesture made by the Church to reach out to us. If you think about it, the Columbian Confess-a-thon is like the Kumpisalang Bayan in the Philippines but not in a physical church.
Here are some similarities. Both happens maybe once, twice a year or maybe even more. The second, it encourages the sacrament to those people who have a different schedule than that of the parish's schedule. Some people just have hectic jobs. The surroundings though may be off-putting to some but I bet the average penitent will say, "Naka-aircon nga lang."
